Volunteer Opportunities

We have need for volunteers to help with Silicon Valley Open on July 26th-27th. It's fun and interesting to see a competition behind the scenes. We especially need people who are interested in learning how to play the music during the competition. It's the best seat in the house to watch! Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Kim Oslob. The VacaValley FSC is also in need of volunteers to help with the Central Regional Championships in October. Contact Mark.

Judging Honor

Congrats to Joan Burns who was honored for 50 years of judging within USFSA and Internationally. Joan has had a long history (1960)- with the club has been President, test chair,club session chair, was instrumental in the merger of 3 clubs into one-(Silver Edge, CrystalSprings and El Camino) into Peninsula SC. Was a board member of the USFSA and Membership chairman of USFSA. Thanks Joan for all your contribution to PSC and USFSA!

Athlete Ambassador Award

Congratulations to Amy Lin the reigning U.S. novice silver medalist, who received this award from US Figure Skating. Amy is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and was awarded High Honor Roll from California Capistrano Connections Academy for the 2012-13 year. She volunteers with Hoop Shots, a weekly program for children with special needs, plants trees through the Nature Interpretive Center, has participated in the Annual Ice Dance Weekend exhibition for Bay Area ice dancers since 2008 and performed in both the 2012 Broadway benefit show for the Riverside Icetown Rink and 2013 California Gold SkateFest fundraising exhibition. Congrats!

National Dance Judge

Congratulations to Elyse Matsumoto who was appointed a National Dance Competition Judge at this year's US FIgure Skating Governing Council! Other recent judging appointments: Patt Martin- Gold Singles & Pairs Test Judge; Beshara Elmufdi - Silver Singles & Pairs Test Judge; Bronze Dance Test Judge

Competition Results

At Crystalline Classic Karen and Jeffrey Chen were awarded second place in the recall! Allison Mai received the Michelle Grob Van Dyke Award! Lily Sun won the Marcia Kresge Award! SJ Test Chair Needed

Many thanks to Angela Kuhlman for her service as Test Chair in San Jose for our Moves and Freestyle tests. She will be stepping down and we need a volunteer to replace her. The test chair needs to be available about 5-6 times a year to plan and run test sessions in San Jose. No experience is necessary- we will train you. It's not hard- just requires organization and follow up skills! Please consider volunteering- we will not be able to have test sessions in SJ if we don't have a replacement for Angela. Please contact Angela, Patt, or any board member if you would be interested or want more information.

Edmunds & Chen bring home the gold!

Congrats to Polina Edmunds and Karen Chen who represented USA and won the junior ladies and advanced novice ladies events respectively at the Gardena Spring Trophy in Italy. Great skates! Check out all the details on Ice Network.

Adult Sectionals

World Junior Championships

Congrats to Lorraine McNamara and her partner Quinn Carpenter for placing 9th in Junior Dance at the 2013 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championship in Milan, Italy!

Disbrow Award

Congrats to Rick Perez, PSC President, who was presented with the Jimmy Disbrow Award during the National Championships. The annual award honors a member of the skating community who shares Disbrow's passion for life and for skating. Disbrow was a past president of U.S. Figure Skating and also served as an Olympic team leader, chair of the 1998 World Figure Skating Championships and an international judge.

Rick definitely reflects the criteria for the award:
-Zest for life and brings smiles to the faces of people around him
-Selfless and enthusiastic benevolence on behalf of skating and is an inspiration to others
-Vision for skating which both encourages innovation and unites the skating community

In addition to his presidency of our club, Rick is an international judge and recently was the chief referee of the US National Championship in Omaha.

Edmunds wins gold, Chen wins pewter

Congratulations to Polina Edmunds who is the Junior Ladies national champion! Karen Chen came in fourth! Great job ladies!

Lin takes home the silver, McNamara gets bronze

Amy Lin came in second in Novice Ladies at Nationals! Lorraine McNamara received the bronze in Junior Dance. Great skates!
